Terms of use

Who can join

• You must be 18 or older to have an account.
• One account per person, in your own name. Don't impersonate anyone.
• Posting, messaging, joining plans and groups need a verified ID. Use your own; using someone else's ID, or helping a banned person back in, gets every account involved banned.

Treat people well

You agree not to:

• harass, threaten, stalk or intimidate anyone, or share anything sexual about or with anyone who hasn't asked for it;
• try to contact, meet or groom a child, in any way: we report this to the police;
• post hate, violence, or anything illegal, or sell anything illegal or dangerous;
• put contact details (phone numbers, emails, social media handles, messaging links) in public posts, or ask people to move to another app to get around these rules;
• scam people, spam, or post misleading listings or plans;
• share where a person lives or is, or anyone's private information;
• scrape the site, get around its limits, or interfere with how it works.

Meeting people

Plans and groups meet at public places. Meet in public, tell someone where you're going (the plan page can send it for you), and leave if anything feels wrong. We verify that people are adults with a real ID, but we can't vouch for anyone's behaviour, and we aren't responsible for what happens when you meet. If something happens that puts anyone in danger, call 911, then report it to us.

Your posts

You own what you post. You let us show it on the site, to the people who can see it, for as long as it's up. You're responsible for what you post and for any deal you make in the marketplace; we aren't a party to it.

Reports and moderation

Anyone signed in can report a post or a person. Posts reported by several verified people, or reported as putting a child at risk, are hidden until an admin looks. We may remove posts, suspend accounts, and ban people (including from signing up again with the same ID) when we believe they've broken these terms or put someone at risk. We try to be fair, but these decisions are ours.

City information

Events, programs, washrooms, TTC vehicles and Bike Share come from public open data (City of Toronto, Toronto Public Library, TTC, Bike Share Toronto) under their licences, including the Open Government Licence – Toronto. They can be late or wrong: check with the source before you rely on them.

No warranty

The site is provided as it is, free, without any warranty. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for anything other people do. Nothing here limits rights you have under Ontario consumer law that can't be limited.

Leaving, and changes

You can stop using the site and ask us to delete your account at any time (privacy@torontocitizen.ca). We may change these terms; if a change matters, we'll say so on the site before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and Canada.
